Marseille have entered the race to sign Mason Greenwood from Manchester United

French giants Monaco have taken an interest in Manchester United outcast Mason Greenwood who spent the last season on loan at La Liga side Getafe. The lively English forward bagged 10 goals and six assists from 36 games in all competitions.

The 22-year-old does not have a future at Old Trafford and the board is willing to cash in on the academy graduate this summer. United will begin pre-season training at the club’s Carrington training complex from next Monday and Greenwood will be allowed to partake in the training which necessarily does not mean first-team training.

Manchester United were also willing to sanction a loan but it should include a buy clause. Lazio are currently considered frontrunner for Greenwood’s signature despite Getafe’s willingness to sign him on a permanent deal. But the Spanish outfit could not afford the Englishman due to his mammoth valuation of £40m.

Marseille has entered the race for Mason Greenwood

Once upon a time, Greenwood was regarded as one of the finest attacking talents in world football but he could still fulfill that potential. Both Lazio and Marseille have reportedly tabled an initial bid for the outcasted striker.

They are one of the few European clubs tracking the 22-year-old, with Lazio reportedly offering a €25m package which also includes a large sell-on percentage.

“Man Utd have not made final decision yet about Mason Greenwood but [the] feeling is that [the] club will be ready to consider proposals in case of permanent transfer bids,” wrote Romano.

“Man Utd could cash in on Greenwood this summer, [they’re] waiting for INEOS verdict after internal talks.”
