Why was Hložek’s goal canceled by VAR in the Georgia vs Czech Republic game?

In a dramatic turn of events during the Euro 2024 Group F match between Georgia and Czechia – Adam Hlozek’s goal was disallowed which left fans in disbelief. The match held at the Volksparkstadion saw Czechia momentarily believe they had taken a 1-0 lead.

The Disallowed Goal in the Georgia vs Czechia Game

The incident occurred in the 23rd minute when Vladimir Coufal launched a long throw into the box. Adam Hlozek managed to scramble the ball into the net sparking celebrations among the Czechia players and fans.

However, the joy was short-lived as the goal was immediately put under review by VAR.

VAR Decision and Snickometer Confirmation

The VAR officials scrutinized the play and determined that Hlozek had handled the ball before scoring.

To ensure accuracy the Snickometer technology was employed confirming that the ball had indeed touched Hlozek’s hand before crossing the goal line. As a result the goal was disallowed and the match continued without a score.

Currently, Czechia sits third in the Group F standings while Georgia remains at the bottom. This decision left Czechia with a setback as they now look to open their Euro 2024 points account. However, at half-time, Georgia now led the game by 1-0 as Georges Mikautadze converted from the spot at the brink of half-time.
