Germany vs Hungary Player Ratings: İlkay Gündoğan 9.5; Jamal Musiala 9; Kai Havertz 7

Germany have made it to the knockout stages of the EURO 2024 with a comfortable 2-0 win over Hungary. Ilkay Gundogan was the hero for the home side today as he scored and assisted to seal all three points.

Roland Sallai came close to scoring in the opening 10 seconds of the match for Hungary, but Manuel Neuer made a brilliant save to deny him. From then, it was mostly Germany who dominated the game and Jamal Musiala’s composure, along with Gundogan’s determination, saw them take the lead in the 22nd minute.

Hungary came close to scoring on a couple of occasions but were unable to beat Neuer. Gundogan then got himself on the scoresheet thanks to a brilliant assist from substitute Niclas Fullkrug in the 67th minute.

They held on until the end and sealed all three points.

Manuel Neuer – 7: He was called into action in the very first minute, and he delivered. Apart from that, he had just a free kick to trouble him, and that saw him making a spectacular save.

DEFENDERS

Joshua Kimmich – 8: A solid game at the back for the right-back. He did not have a lot to do defensively and was more involved in the opponent’s half until the final minute, when he cleared the ball off the line.

Antonio Rüdiger – 6.5: Could have easily got sent off in the first half, but the VAR check did not result in a red card. He did well after picking up the booking and stayed on until the end.

Jonathan Tah – 7: His game awareness was spot on and he single-handedly ended a counter from Hungary. Apart from that, nothing much was needed from the defender.

Maximilian Mittelstädt – 7: More involved in the final third than the defensive third. Picked up a booking at the very end of the match.

MIDFIELDERS

Robert Andrich – 7.5: Came close to scoring in the opening 15 minutes of the game and that was the most he had to do.

Toni Kroos – 8: Another match, another 100+ passes completed. He did misplace 6 of them this evening but was controlling the flow of the game again.

Jamal Musiala – 9: The youngster is a special talent and he is ready to showcase it in the home tournament. The goal was too good as it showed how composed he is in front of the goal.

İlkay Gündoğan – 9.5: After a relatively poor display against Scotland, Gundogan bounced back with a captain’s performance. An assist and a goal today, though he had just 51 touches of the ball.

Florian Wirtz – 7: A quiet game for the youngster and he was taken off before the hour mark.

Kai Havertz – 7: Did well initially in the game but was not able to get the final touch in the final third.

Péter Gulácsi – 8: Kept Hungary in the game with 5 brilliant saves and was calm when needed.

DEFENDERS

Attila Fiola – 6: Hardly involved in the match as he was finding it hard to get the ball and was given a tough time by Florian Wirtz.

Willi Orbán – 7.5: Had a decent game compared to the other Hungarian players and was the reason why Havertz hardly got a clear chance to score.

Márton Dárdai – 6: Found it hard against Jamal Musiala and was not getting the support needed from left wing-back.

MIDFIELDERS

Bendegúz Bolla – 6.5: Played 75 minutes today but still managed to get just 12 passes. Had a shot away, but it was off target.

Ádám Nagy – 6: Was unable get much of the ball and spent most of the game chasing Kroos and Andrich.

András Schäfer – 5: All over the pitch today and was hardly able to influence play. He lost 7 of his duels and lost possession 10 times, making things harder for his teammates.

Miloš Kerkez – 6: The left wing-back was unable to do much in the defensive third today and was missing in the final third too. He did create a couple of good chances, but that did not have an end product.

FORWARDS

Dominik Szoboszlai – 6.5: Came close to scoring with the freekick, and had another good chance from inside the box. But that was not able to get the ball past Neuer.

Roland Sallai – 6: The match would have been a whole lot different if he had managed to get the ball past Neuer in the opening 10 seconds. He had tow more shots, but they did not trouble the German keeper.

Barnabás Varga – 6: Could have scored in either half, but his shots were either off target or saves with ease.
