Victor Osimhen strikes back at newly-resigning Nigerian football coach Finidi George following deserting accusation
Nigerian midfielder Victor Osimhen strikes back at his former national team’s coach Finidi George who accused him of refusing to play for the Super Eagles. Nigeria are struggling in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. Lately, Nigeria shockingly lost to Benin, putting them fourth on the table, collecting only three points from four games.
George took a dig at Osimhen, who according to him, avoided playing for Nigeria with injury reasons. The midfielder went mad once he heard about the accusation, admitting that he has lost respect for the former national team midfielder.
Victor Osimhen losing respect for Finidi George
Osimhen suffered a twisted ankle when Napoli played against Bologna in the beginning of last month. Owing to this, the 25-year old had to stay off the pitch for at least four weeks maximum.
“I asked Finidi George to allow me stay with the players in the camp, but Finidi asked me not to bother that I should stay with my family,” he said on Instagram Live via Complete Sports. “Now after two bad games, everybody is now blaming me.”
The situation is so catastrophic for Nigeria that Finidi had to resign from his position today. It remains unknown who to replace his position but reports suggested that the federation are considering a foreigner.
Osimhen was one of the most important players for this generation of Nigeria’s national football team. He is known for his agility and composure when playing for Napoli, which he played 32 games and scored 17 goals for.
