Vincent Kompany to Bayern Munich receives huge boost from the Belgian’s end: Reports

Bayern Munich’s pursuit of Vincent Kompany as Thomas Tuchel’s replacement has moved a step closer as the Belgian coach has informed Burnley that he wants to join the Bundesliga giants. The former Manchester City captain is extremely interested in taking the reigns at the Allianz Arena.

Fabrizio Romano reports that Kompany has informed Burnley of an agreement he’s struck with Bayern Munich. The 38-year-old has become the Bavarians’ top managerial candidate and the German outfit are in ongoing negotiations with the Clarets with an agreement expected soon.

Vincent Kompany emerged as somewhat of a surprise option for Bayern as their search for Tuchel’s successor saw several managers decline them. The likes of Julian Nagelsmann, Ralf Rangnick, Roger Schmidt and Xabi Alonso all rejected approaches from Der FCB. The club’s chiefs Max Eberl and Christoph Freund have always wanted a young coach and Kompany appears to fit the bill.

Their move for the former Anderlecht head coach comes just days after Burnely finished the season 19th in the Premier League. They were relegated to the EFL Championship after suffering 24 defeats in 38 league games with many initially tipping them for a top-half finish.

Vincent Kompany had impressed in his debut season at Turf Moor when he arrived in July 2022, implementing an exciting brand of football that reaped results. He guided the Clarets to the EFL Championship title with 101 points in the 2022-23 campaign.

Manchester City winger Jack Grealish could become Vincent Kompany’s first Bayern Munich signing

Vincent Kompany looks to be wasting no time at all despite not even being announced as Bayern Munich’s new manager. The Belgian has set his sights on one of the Premier League’s biggest superstars to help ignite his reign at the Allianz Arena.

The Sun reports that Bayern are eyeing Manchester City’s Jack Grealish as they want to add a new winger to their squad. The 35-cap England international endured a difficult season at the Etihad, plagued by injury issues and a lack of form. The 28-year-old managed three goals and as many assists in 36 games across competitions.

Jack Grealish could face an uphill battle to reclaim a starting place in Pep Guardiola’s side as the likes of Phil Foden and Jeremy Doku have impressed. He has three years left on his contract and joined City from Aston Villa in August 2021 for £100 million.

The former Villa captain could link up with England teammate Harry Kane at Bayern if he does head to the Bundesliga this summer. The pair have both been named in Gareth Southgate’s provisional 33-man Three Lions squad for Euro 2024. Grealish’s place on the plane to the Euros isn’t a certainty given the frustrating season he’s experienced.
