Kieran Trippier’s injury in a friendly match scares England as Euro 2024 is on the horizon
About 24 hours after Gareth Southgate announced his provisional England squad for Euro 2024, one player has shown a concerning situation. Kieran Trippier, who was one of the 33 drafted players on the list, had to leave the pitch early in the Newcastle United friendly game against Tottenham Hotspur. The Kieran Trippier injury could be an alarm for England ahead of EURO 2024.
Trippier played only 36 minutes before being replaced by Jacob Murphy against his former team in the game held at Melbourne Cricket Ground, Australia. The game itself is controversial, with both teams having just finished their competitive league not even a week ago. As well as being organized before a big tournament like Euro.
Southgate could hope for the best, yet prepare for the worst scenario if Trippier can’t make it to the Euro. The 33-year-old has just returned from a calf injury he suffered back in March and played only the last three league games afterward.
Should Trippier’s condition be worse enough to miss the Euro, Southgate has only two full-backs left, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Kyle Walker. The aforementioned was planned to play in the midfield, leaving only Walker as a proper replacement.
Trippier has started to regain his place in the national team after his “exile” to Spain with Atletico Madrid. Since returning to England, he has been an important figure for The Magpies, taking them to the Champions League in his first season with the club.
During the 2023/24 season, Trippier played 39 games across the competition, scoring one goal. Newcastle would have the opportunity to play in the European Conference League with the condition that Manchester United fail to win the FA Cup.
