Brighton star Adam Lallana was given a standing ovation on his last appearance
Lallana leaves the Seagulls after four years
Brighton & Hove Albion star Adam Lallana was given a standing ovation by both set of fans as he come off for the last time. The Seagulls were beaten 2-0 by Manchester United at the AMEX Stadium on Sunday in their final Premier League game of the season, wherein Lallana played his last for the side.
Joining on a free transfer from Liverpool in 2020, right after winning the Premier League title, Lallana quickly became a key player for the Seagulls too. Over the last four years, he has amassed 103 appearances for the southern outfit in all competitions, including 94 in the Premier League alone.
Last week, it was revealed that Lallana will leave Brighton, despite manager Roberto De Zerbi insisting on him staying at the club. However, the England international said he made the decision due to “family reasons.”
Today, when the midfielder was subbed off and trudged off the AMEX turf for the final time as their player, fans sitting on all four sides of the stadium were on their feet to give him a rapturous ovation. Lallana was seen hugging De Zerbi on the touchline, as the player was in tears as he bid the fans adieu.
Brighton finished a promising season on a losing note
Brighton had begun their Premier League season with five wins from their opening six games, including some big results such as the 3-1 win away to Manchester United and 4-1 away to Wolves. It seemed like the Seagulls could be the surprise package of this season, as Newcastle United were of the last. However, things soon unraveled, as Brighton won only seven times out of the next 32. It all began with Aston Villa wiping the floor with them in a 6-1 victory, while De Zerbi’s side succumbed to several heavy losses over the course of the next few months, including the humiliating 4-0 loss to the now-relegated Luton Town.
