Reece James Injury: Chelsea Enlists Positive Update
Reece James Injury: the defender is back to first-team training – Reports
The Premier League club Chelsea has been dealing with a long-list of injury concerns lately amidst their 2023-2024 top-flight campaign. In the defensive department, players like Ben Chilwell, Reece James, and Wesley Fofana have been on the sidelines for the Blues for a greater chunk of the season. Also, they did have players unavailable in other areas of the pitch in the form of Romeo Lavia, and Enzo Fernandez as well due to injuries.
However, the London-based club has recently revealed a positive update regarding Reece James injury. As quoted by ‘Fabrizio Romano’ on his official ‘X’ handle (formerly Twitter), the right-back is back to the first-team training for Mauricio Pochettino’s side and is pretty much involved with the squad and working consistently.
The England international suffered a hamstring blow in the middle part of December 2023 in Chelsea’s away-from-home clash at Goodison Park which ended in a 2-0 loss for the visitors. The defender than went through surgery in the latter part of the same month on his concerned injury and has since been on his way to recovery and under rehabilitation.
With the Blues regaining some momentum going into the later part of the season and eyeing a potential European spot in the table, one could only wonder how things would have been more appealing for the Londoners if they had one of their prominent players in the form of Reece James been available consistently for them to play and start games.
The numbers of Reece James for Chelsea in the 2023-2024 season before his injury woes
Before getting sidelined due to a hamstring knock, Reece James only played a mere sum of eight games for Chelsea in the whole of the 2023-2024 top-flight campaign. Apart from providing defensive solidity and aiding in initiative attacks, he also registered one assist to his tally in these appearances. It is a no-brainer that the club’s hierarchy wouldn’t be in any mood to rush his on-field return pre-maturely now with only a few games to go in the season.
With the Blues not having any major list of options available to play at the right-back position in James’ injury absence, the honors did fall on the 20-year-old Malo Gusto to step up and fill those shoes. It is fair to say that the French defender has done his bit to cover up that position for Poch so far having been decent defensively and also been agile in moving up the field with five assists to his name till now.
