“It’s difficult to explain”: Xabi Alonso Comments on Bayer Leverkusen’s Scintillating Unbeaten Run

Xabi Alonso comments on unbeaten run

Xabi Alonso has done an outstanding job at the Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen. The German club once again managed to come from behind to draw the game in the second leg of their UEFA Europa League (UEL) semi-final against Roma, keeping their unbeaten run alive by 49 matches and thus progressing to the finals by an aggregate scoreline of 4-2 across both the legs. In the post-match conference, the Spanish manager was a little out of words describing his side’s hot run of form.

The 42-year-old reportedly asserted – “It’s difficult to explain these kind of situations once over and over again. I am kind of speechless again that we were able to score, to come back, to show this character and not to lose the game”. He further pressed upon the point that despite having chances in the game and coming close to scoring, his side didn’t give up and showed “great character” and “confidence” to come back and level proceedings.

Leverkusen has already roped in the Bundesliga title for the 2023-2024 season. The goal will be for the club to now go on and win the UEFA Europa League title and make this top-flight season more memorable. The German club has displayed some swash-buckling football this season under Xabi and they have been the topic of discussion the entire campaign, courtesy of the on-field performances which the 42-year-old manager has been able to bring out from them.

With Xabi Alonso earlier announcing that he will be staying at Leverkusen for the 2024-2025 season, one would hope that the team would further hit new highs under him in the upcoming campaign. It would be interesting to find out how the Spanish manager takes his club forward and what enhancements and changes he would surface progressing into the next season.

Who will Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen face in the finals of the UEL in their quest to lift the prestigious trophy?

After their win over Roma across both legs of the UEFA Europa League semi-final, Leverkusen has reached the finals of the prestigious competition, which will be played in the Capital City of Ireland – Dublin on May 22nd, 2024. However, their path to lifting the trophy won’t be that easy as the team that they will be coming up against is also in red-hot form in the competition this season.

The German club would be coming up against the Italian side Atalanta BC in the final of the 2023-2024 UEL campaign. Atalanta have beaten Marseille by the aggregate scoreline of 4-1 across both the legs to cement a place in the final. The match promises to be an epic and enthralling clash between two sides on the top of their games lately.
