West Ham coach David Moyes bans technical director Tim Steidten from entering dressing room
West Ham coach David Moyes apparently got upset with replacement talks
West Ham manager David Moyes has reportedly barred their technical director Tim Steidten from entering the side’s dressing room, according to talkSPORT. Moyes is said to be unhappy with the club looking for potential replacements while he is still into the job.
The former Manchester United coach is running out of contract with the Hammers this summer and is most likely to leave, as talks of extension haven’t taken place yet. Steidten, their technical director, is currently searching for his successor, and is eyeing Sporting CP’s Ruben Amorim.
Amorim even traveled to London on Monday to talk with West Ham officials and publicly confirmed the news to the press too. This particularly upset Moyes, who has proceeded to ban Steidten from West Ham’s dressing room.
Moyes guided West Ham to the UEFA Conference League title last year, the London side’s first ever European trophy, but that may not be enough to keep him in the job beyond this summer, following what’s been a poor campaign for them on the Premier League front.
Julen Lopetegui and Paulo Fonseca are among the potential candidates to take up the job, as Amorim has ruled himself out.
No European football for West Ham next season after back-to-back dreamy runs
After winning the Europa Conference League last year, West Ham qualified for the Europa League this season and marched all the way to the quarter-finals, where Bayer Leverkusen ousted them. It was still a respectable finish in a relatively more competitive tournament but next season, the Hammers are likely to miss out on European football altogether, owing to their lowly standings in the Premier League. With only 49 points from 35 games, the London side are down in eighth position of the league table, 11 behind fifth-placed Tottenham Hotspur. Chelsea and Manchester City account for two of their last three fixtures too, making it all the more difficult to see them sneak into European places at the last minute.
