Tottenham Hotspur Hit by Injury Woes: Duo Ruled Out for Rest of Season
Two additional players’ injuries have ruled them out for the remainder of the season, dealing Tottenham Hotspur two serious blows in their quest for Champions League football.
The Lilywhites, who have fallen short of fourth place in the standings after losses to Newcastle United and Arsenal in recent weeks, will be looking to snap a two-match losing streak against Chelsea in Thursday’s Premier League London derby.
Tottenham Hotspur Injury: Werner & Ben Davies join six-man injury list
Timo Werner, the RB Leipzig loanee, sustained a hamstring injury shortly after the half-hour in Sunday’s North London derby, and Ange Postecoglou was obliged to take him off the pitch.
After the game, Postecoglou was unaware of the seriousness of Werner’s problem, but in an interview with Tottenham’s media outlets, the Australian said that the former Chelsea player is unlikely to play again this season.
Werner’s absence may also indicate that this is his last appearance in a Tottenham uniform, as the Lilywhites have not yet determined whether to use the ÂŁ15 million option in his contract to sign him long-term.
Though it appeared like Tottenham emerged unhurt from the North London derby, Postecoglou also disclosed that left-back Ben Davies had suffered a calf injury and would miss the remaining five games of the season.
“Unfortunately we’ve had a couple of issues out of the last game,” Postecoglou said. “Timo with a hamstring, so he’ll miss the rest of the season. Only three weeks to go so he won’t be back. Ben Davies picked up a calf issue which will probably rule him out for the rest of the games as well.”
The absence of Werner and Davies compounds Tottenham’s injury woes, with the duo joining a growing list of sidelined players including Manor Solomon, Fraser Forster, Ryan Sessegnon, and Destiny Udogie.
Tottenham Look For Werner & Davies Replacement For Chelsea Clash
Despite the setbacks, there is a glimmer of hope for Tottenham as midfielder Oliver Skipp is expected to return for the upcoming clash against Chelsea.
In light of Werner and Davies’ injuries, Tottenham will need to find suitable replacements for the crucial matches ahead, including encounters against Liverpool and Manchester City.
Postecoglou may turn to Brennan Johnson, Richarlison, or Emerson Royal to fill the void left by the injured duo, as Tottenham strives to maintain their push for a top-four finish in the Premier League.
