Tottenham’s Ange Postecoglou Laments Destiny Udogie’s Injury Blow Ahead of Euro 2024
Destiny Udogie was “an important part” of Tottenham’s system, according to coach Ange Postecoglou, who expressed his “disappointment” after the Italian’s injury.
How Destiny Udogie Suffered Injury?
The 21-year-old left defender proved to be an exciting potential as soon as he joined the Spurs team in North London after leaving Udinese last summer. In his 28 outings as a Premier League rookie, he has excelled with two goals and three assists.
Unfortunately, news just reached Udogie that he would need surgery last week due to a left quadriceps injury he sustained during training.
This ailment will prevent him from playing until the preseason. The Italian, who is 21 years old, will therefore be unavailable for the forthcoming European Championship (Euro 2024) for Italy.
Ange Postecoglou Comments on Udogie’s Injury
In a press conference via Football.London, Postecoglou conveyed his sentiments regarding Udogie’s setback, stating,
“Yeah, from the last game, a disappointing one for Destiny and for ourselves as well, because he’s been a big part of our year. It was just an unfortunate incident in training. He’s had the operation, it’s gone well, so hopefully it gives him time to have pre-season and get back into it. So, we’ll miss him.”
When questioned about the nature of Udogie’s injury, Postecoglou explained,
“It was non-contact. He just went to have a strike at goal by himself and got the injury.”
Confirming Udogie’s absence from Euro 2024, Postecoglou responded with a succinct “yeah, yeah” when asked about his participation in the tournament.
As Tottenham navigates through the remainder of the season without Udogie, the focus now shifts to his recovery and eventual return to the pitch for the upcoming pre-season campaign.
