Barcelona Transfer News: Spanish giants open to cash in on underfiring Robert Lewandowski this summer
Robert Lewandowski is not among Barcelona’s untouchable players in the transfer market.
Barcelona Transfer News: Robert Lewandowski could be sold if proper bid arrives
According to The Athletic, Barcelona are open to selling Robert Lewandowski this summer, given a suitable offer is on the table. The Polish hitman joined La Blaugrana from Bayern Munich in 2022 for a reported 50 million euro fee. He won the Pichichi award in his first season in Spanish football. Lewandowski’s form, however, has since dipped.
He has scored 23 goals across competitions this season, in 44 appearances, including 16 goals in 30 La Liga matches. He is tied third in the Golden Boot race as Barcelona’s bid to retain their La Liga title has seemingly gone down the stream. As per the Athletic, Barcelona are open to selling Lewandowski and the lethal striker is not untouchable in the transfer market.
Lewandowski’s current contract with Barcelona runs until the end of the 2025-26 season and the 35-year-old is valued at 15 million euros by Transfermarkt. He looks set to end the season trophyless with Barcelona. La Blaugrana already have a back-up in place for Lewandowski as Brazilian prodigy Vitor Roque joined the club in January. Lewandowski, though, is still the first-choice striker and recently scored a hat-trick during the 4-2 La Liga home win against Valencia.
Robert Lewandowski rules out Barcelona exit in the summer
While reports suggest that Barcelona could cash in on Lewandowski in the summer transfer market, the Polish striker doesn’t see him leaving as a possibility. Lewandowski claimed that he still feels physically good and has more to offer. In a recent interview, the former Bayern Munich attacker said (via GOAL):
“Leaving Barca this summer is definitely not possible, it’s not a topic. I physically feel good. This is the case for at least two more years. When I’m physically no longer at a top level, I’d start thinking.”
Barcelona, meanwhile, take on Girona on the road this weekend in a clash that is pivotal for the second-place finish. La Blaugrana are two points ahead of third-placed Girona heading into the Catalan derby.
