Cristiano Ronaldo’s red card against Al-Hilal in the Saudi Super Cup semi-final proved to be a major subject of discussion in the footballing world. The red card for the veteran Al-Nassr forward in the 86th minute of the game landed him a total of two-match ban. CR7 will face a match suspension due to the red card offence while an additional game ban has been impeded on him for behaviour-related clauses by the discipline authorities. However, Al-Nassr is set to appeal CR7’s red card.
However, in the same semifinal clash against Al-Hilal, there was a moment in the initial stages of the match when Cristiano Ronaldo went down inside the opposition’s box and for a moment looked upon the referee with a possibility of being fouled intentionally by the opposition’s player and thereby might getting a penalty for it. However, the referee was quick to waive off that call as he deemed that as no foul.
In the same incident the Russian model and a vivid Cristiano Ronaldo fan ‘Svetlana Alekseeva’ took to one of his socials and shared her disappointment towards the forward player not being given a penalty for the potential foul on him inside the final third. “Ronaldo gets robbed again”, “How’s that not a penalty?”, Svetlana reportedly stated.
Al-Nassr suffered a denting 2-1 loss to Al-Hilal on the night and consequently crashed out of the Saudi Super Cup. They also had a goal disallowed in the earlier stages of the match with Ronaldo being judged in an offside position attempting to play the ball. His red card proved to be the final nail in Al-Nassr’s coffin. All in all, it turned out to be a forgettable night for CR7’s side.
Fans disagreed with Svetlana Alekseeva
Svetlana Alekseeva severely applauded Cristiano Ronaldo’s passion and integrity for the game when he calmly received his red card in the closing stages of the match. However, it was her initial post about the possible penalty to be given to CR7 was what that caused fans to troll her heavily and question her knowledge of the game.
One of the fans reportedly wrote as a reply to her initial post – “Don’t you know football”. Another one chimed in and ironically inflicted – “diving failed”. A follower drastically pointed out – “that’s not a penalty”. However, the fans had every right to voice out their opinions and so did Svetlana. From the reactions of the fans, it can be inferred that they disagree with the Russian Model Svetlana on deeming the challenge on Cristiano Ronaldo as a penalty robbed.
When one dwells upon the original incident it seems like there was very minimal contact on Al-Nassr’s number seven for him to go down inside the box like that. However, considering the modern tantrums in the game of football players do prefer to go down after even the slightest of touches inside the box in the hope of getting a penalty.
