Palestine vs Bangladesh Preview

With the FIFA World Cup 2026 in sight, Palestine, against all odds, are fighting for a spot in the global soccer event. Following a narrow 1-2 loss at the hands of Qatar earlier this year, Palestine will now aim for a potential qualification in the World Cup. They will now host Bangladesh in the third round of the World Cup qualifiers on 22nd March at Jaber Al-Ahmad International Stadium in Kuwait.

The Lions of Canaan will aim to get back to winning ways through this game against Bangladesh as their last game saw them crash out of the AFC Asian Cup 2024. After defeating Hong Kong 3-0, Makram Daboub’s side was high on morale until they met Qatar. However, the positive thing for Palestine is that this was the first time they made a knockout appearance in the tournament. Many believe that it is the biggest story for the nation in recent times given everything they have been witnessing for the last couple of months.

On the flip side, Bangladesh will head into this contest on the back of a hapless 1-1 draw against Lebanon in their second match of the World Cup Qualifiers third round at the Basundhara Kings Arena. The Bengal Tigers started this qualifying round on a negative note as they were thrashed 7-0 by Australia. Ranked lowly 183rd in the world soccer points table, Bangladesh now needs to produce a big performance against Palestine on the forthcoming Friday.

Both teams sit bottom of their group table with one point each as Australia and Lebanon occupy first and second spots respectively in Group I of the World Cup qualifiers from Asia. Neither Palestine nor Bangladesh have won a match in this round so far, with 4 matches remaining on the roster.

Palestine should stick to their original 4-4-2 formation as they have delivered impressive performances with this shape recently despite facing defeats against tough opponents. Zaid Qunbar and Oday Dabbagh are expected to lead the attack for the hosts, while Amid Mahajna and Oday Kharoub will run the proceedings in the middle of the park. The bad news for them would be the rumors of Tamer Sayem’s injury, which makes the availability of the player doubtful for this game. The versatile midfielder is one of the assets for Daboub and his absence might cause problems in the middle, given his experience in moving the ball forward.

As for Bangladesh, there should not be many changes. The Bengal Tigers were marginally better than Lebanon at home, but couldn’t produce the winning moment to boost their morale.

Palestine vs Bangladesh Predicted Lineups

Palestine vs Bangladesh Head-to-head

The two minnows of the Asian Football Federation have locked horns with each other for only five times in their history. The Lions of Canaan clinched victories in all five matches comfortably, scoring nine goals and conceding none. Their last encounter took place in international Friendlies back in 2021 where Bangladesh suffered a 0-2 loss. The most interesting part is that the last three match results between Palestine and Bangladesh are identical.

Last 5 head-to-head results:

  • Bangladesh 0-2 Palestine (International Friendly, 2021)
  • Bangladesh 0-2 (International Friendly, 2020)
  • Palestine 2-0 (International Friendly, 2018)
  • Palestine 1-0 Bangladesh (Challenge Cup, 2013)
  • Palestine 2-0 Bangladesh (Challenge Cup, 2011)

The way Bangladesh have produced a comeback following a 0-7 against Australia, it would not be easy for Palestine to claim an easy victory over them despite holding a perfect record against the visitors. The hosts will look to leave their Asian Cup exit behind and aim to continue their impressive run against the Bengal Tigers who have conceded 8 goals in their last two games.

However, backed by the home crowd in Kuwait, Palestine are tipped to win at home before heading to Bangladesh for their second game of this round. Many are of the view that a hard-fought victory is on the cards for Palestine. Meanwhile, the possibility of a draw also can not be ruled out.

Predicted Score: Palestine 1-0 Bangladesh
