Real Madrid 3-2 Celta Vigo Player Ratings: Mbappe’s Brace and Guler’s Goal Earns Los Blancos the Crucial Three points

Real Madrid hosted Celta Vigo in Santiago Bernabeu on Sunday, 4th May, 2025. It was a match full of goals as Celta Vigo scored twice with Rodriguez and Swedberg. On the other hand, Mbappe’s brace and Guler’s goal saw Real get the three points.

The match kicked off, and even though Madrid was playing on their turf, Celta Vigo were moving the ball more freely from the kick-off whistle. In the 7th minute, Iglesias almost scored the first goal with a great pass. Seconds later, a counterattack started, and Real Madrid almost found the net. The game started showing early signs of attacking plays from both sides.

Till the first 15 minutes of the game passed kept flying out from both sides who saw their team in a great position to score, but things did not quite click for the teams. The 3-man defense seemed to be enough for Real Madrid in the early minutes as none of the Los Blancos players had the enthusiasm or the flair to make something happen. Moreover, the 3-man forward stretched out the Madrid defense to create chances.

In the 24th minute, an inviting cross from Lucas Vazquez was taken out by Guaita before it became dangerous. After the 20th minute mark, the game slowed down even more, and no team seemed dangerous going forward as the priority was to see more of the ball.

After the 30th minute mark, it was all about the possession play as Real Madrid moved the ball among themselves to have more possession. Ancelotti’s idea was for his players to settle down in the game to move the ball with more confidence. The 32nd minute of the game finally saw the first goal. It came from Arda Guler, who hit a stunning curve shot from a quick corner play to give his team a 1-0 lead.

The goal certainly helped the Real Madrid squad as they were playing the game with more energy since then. In the 39th minute, a counter-attack from a Courtois save saw Mbappe up on the pitch. The Frenchman launched a shot and wrapped his boot all over it to see the far side of the net. 2-0! Game on! Jude Bellingham was the first player to be booked in the game as the Englishman saw a yellow in the 44th minute after a harsh tackle.

After the 45 minutes, 2 additional minutes were added. However, the score stood 2-0. The second half started, and a stunning pass from Guler found Kylian, who took the ball rather well to give him some space and guided his left-footed shot into the net to make the score 3-0.

Celta made a couple of changes to try and change the course of the game, but it was just not happening for the traveling team. Bellingham almost made it 4-0 in the 57th minute, but his header was just a little too high.

We saw a couple of substitutions from each side after that, but the tempo of the game pretty much shifted to the control of Real Madrid by that point. In the 68th minute, Celta Vigo finally scored one back from a corner. It was Javi Rodriguez who scored the goal from a rumble in Madrid’s box.

A moment of magic from Vini Jr almost made it 4-1, but his shot was rattled onto the side net as he let on fly from his left foot. Right after coming in, Williot Swedberg scored the 2nd goal in the 75th minute to make the score 3-2. Celta almost made it 3-3, but Courtois somehow stopped it from happening.

A controversial decision kept the fans boo the referee for minutes. But the game went on. Iago Aspas was pretty much the nightmare for the Madrid defenders in the last 10 minutes. In the 88th minute, Diaz had the chance to make it 4-2, but his shot was saved by the Celta keeper. After the normal 90 minutes, 5 additional minutes were added. Mbappe found himself in a great position to make it 4-2 and have a hat-trick, but he missed his chance.

CM- Federico Valverde- 6/10

The engine of Madrid, Federico, played his role as usual. The center midfielder made sure of composure among the team, even in times when they needed inspiration.

Ceballos was given more defensive duties today as he was seen being the 5th man in the defense whenever Real needed an extra body. He made tactical challenges without getting booked.

Arda Guler was the first player for Madrid to score a goal and break the deadlock. The Turkish International had a better impact in the game on the contrast to other games. Bagged the assist in the second half on the Mbappe goal.
