Arsenal vs Porto Player Ratings as David Raya’s heroics in penalty shoot-out takes Gunners through

Arsenal vs Porto Match Summary

Arsenal vs Porto second leg ended in a 1-0 win for the Gunners, with the game ending 1-1 on aggregate. The North Londoners then won the penalty shoot-out 4-2 to progress to the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League.

The overall match was a very cagey affair as Porto looked to sit deep and prevent Arsenal from making easy inroads into their penalty area. The first half saw the hosts attempt seven shots but just two of those were on target, while the visitors managed one shot on target from five attempts.

Leandro Trossard grabbed the all-important goal in the tie after 41 minutes. Captain Martin Odegaard played the Belgian through after some silky footwork as he applied the finish to make it 1-0. Arsenal led at the half-time interval.

The second half was a similarly cagey affair and it seemed Porto were content to just sit back and hope for mistakes. Odegaard seemed to have scored the Gunners’ second goal but it was ruled out as Kai Havertz was obstructing the goalkeeper. Gabriel Jesus had a good chance to score after coming on but Diogo Costa made a good save to deny him. The game went into extra-time.

Both Arsenal and Porto sat deep and played cautious football as they looked to avoid a last-ditch defeat. The game entered a penalty shoot-out after a goalless extra-time. The Gunners held their nerve and scored all four spot-kicks, while goalkeeper David Raya made two saves to knock Porto out of the competition.
