Sarpreet started out at the Wynrs Wynton Rufer Soccer Academy at the age of seven. He later played for local club Onehunga Sports, then moved to the academy of Wellington Phoenix. At the age of ten, Sarpreet represented Auckland at the Australian National Futsal Championships, winning the Most Valuable Player award, and attracting interest from many top European clubs.

Club Career

Sarpreet Singh joined the Wellington Phoenix Academy in early 2015 and began his senior footballing career later that year, being placed into Wellington’s reserve team, just at the age of sixteen. In February 2017, he made his competitive debut in the A-League as a substitute and in June 2017, he signed his first senior contract. He slowly grew his reputation, starting out as a squad player to an irreplaceable starter, thus garnering interest worldwide.
His performances impressed Bayern Munich and in 2019, he signed a contract for three years. He started representing Bayern Munich II, who play in the third division of Germany 3 Liga. On 14 December 2019, he made his Bundesliga debut as a substitute under the then interim coach Hansi Flick, thus becoming the first New Zealander to play in the Bundesliga since Wynton Rufer. Sarpreet also made his first start for Bayern Munich in June 2020 against SC Freiburg, after the Bavarian giants secured the league title.
To further his development, Sarpreet was loaned out to lower-division clubs FC Nurnberg and Jahn Regensburg. After the end of his contract at Bayern Munich, he joined Hansa Rostock on a free. He is now currently playing for União de Leiria, a second division club in Portugal.
International Career

Sarpreet Singh represented New Zealand at all junior levels and even represented New Zealand at the U17 Oceania Cup 2017 and the FIFA U-20 World Cup. In 2018, he played in the Intercontinental Cup hosted by India and scored his debut goal for the country and followed it up with a brace of assists against India.
Sarpreet was also part of the New Zealand squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers and now that the country sealed their qualification, Sarpreet could become the first player of Indian origin to compete at a World Cup since Vikash Rao Dhorasoo, who was part of the French team that finished runners-up at the 2006 World Cup.
