Chelsea 2–2 Ipswich Town Player Ratings: Both Teams Share Spoils After an Epic Comeback from the Pensioners
On a thrilling Sunday Afternoon fixture, Chelsea hosted Ipswich Town at Stamford Bridge on 13th April 2025. Enzo Maresca’s team wanted a clear 3 points from the match, while the Tractor Boys only had the intention to win away from home.
The match started with both teams moving the ball smoothly looking forward to have more command on the game. A chance came in on the 7th minute for Jackson to score the first goal. However his shot rattled the bar and went wide from a cross.
Another chance came in for the Blues from a Pedro Neto cross in the 11th minute, but Madueke’s shot was saved by Palmer. Colwill also missed his chance in the 17th minute from a header.
The miracle happened in the 18th minute, as Enciso slotted it past Robert Sanchez with a touch in the box from a quick low cross. It was game on with a 0-1 score. In the 30th minute, the Tractor Boys doubled the lead, this time off a header from Johnson.
4 minutes were added after the normal minutes. However, the score remained the same. At the beginning of the second half, a quick Madueke cross in the box saw Cucurella score one back for the team to make it 1-2. But the match became slow after that, as up to the 76th minute the score stood the same.
In the 78th minute, a stunning curved shot from Sancho saw the score become 2-2. After 90 minutes, 6 minutes were added. But the score stood 2-2. Here are the Chelsea vs Ipswich Town Player Ratings.
Chelsea Player Ratings

GK- Robert Sanchez- 4/10
Robert seemed shocked as to how Enciso scored the goal suddenly. He seemed to be in disbelief of how loosely his teammate has been covering the players in the box. It was the same situation when his team conceded the second goal.
RB- Trevoh Chalobah- 4.5/10
Chalobah had the green light from Maresca to go forward and be on the higher end of the pitch. While he was good with his pressing and attacking duties, he was caught multiple times by the wingers of Ipswich Town.
CB- Tosin Adarabioyo- 4/10
A very poor performance from Tosin who was nowhere near his best in the evening. His poor marking was one of the biggest reason of the quick 2-goal deficit in the first half. He was subbed off in the 45th minute.
CB- Levi Colwill- 4.5/10
Along with his defensive partner Tosin, Levi was equally guilty of poor defensive performance. In addition to that, he missed an easy chance to score of a header and give his team an early lead.
LB- Marc Cucurella- 5.5/10
Marc was perhaps the busiest and the best defender for Chelsea today. Just like any other matches, he made his attacking runs, cut back when he needed to. Like every day, he was the ultimate team player for the Blues. The Spaniard scored the first goal for his team in the beginning of the second half.
CM- Enzo Fernandez- 4.5/10
Enzo was pretty much a ghost in the midfield today. While the Argentine is known to dominate the midfield to give his team more control of the game, he was lacking that majorly this afternoon. Moreover, he made quite a few misspasses.
CM- Moises Caicedo- 5/10
Just like his Argentine partner, Moises was nowhere in the pitch today. The Chelsea midfield was non-existent in the first half. It was perhaps one of the biggest reasons why they were in two-goal deficit.
CAM- Cole Palmer- 5/10
Just like his midfield peers, Palmer’s creativity did not save his team in the first half. However, he was the only midfielder for the Blues who was moving the ball with intent. He received a yellow card in the 66th minute.
RM- Noni Madueke- 5.5/10
Noni tried to make something happen out of nothing multiple times, especially from outside the box. However, the majority of his attempts were either blocked or off-target. He bagged an assist in the second half. He was subbed off in the 66th minute.
LM- Pedro Neto- 6/10
Pedro was perhaps the best player for the Blues in the first half. From shielding the ball while going forward to making quality crosses in the box, he carried out his duties effortlessly in the first half. Made a thumping shot on 70th minute but it went a little too wide.
ST- Nicolas Jackson- 4.5/10
Jackson missed an early chance to score and give his team an early lead in the 7th minute. Since then, the forward did not have any quality service or the ball in a decent position from where he could do something. He was subbed off in the 86th minute.
Sub- Malo Gusto- 5/10
Malo came in at the beginning of the second half. Enzo Maresca wanted Chalobah to move into the CB position, so he made the change.
Sub- Jadon Sancho- 5/10
Jadon came in the 66th minute as Maresca wanted a couple of fresh legs on the wings to change the fortune of the game. The crowd welcomed him with boo. Scored a beautiful goal to give his team the lead.
Sub- Christopher Nkunku- 4/10
Nkunku came on to the match in the 86th minute to try and score a goal to win the critical 3 points. He took place of Jackson.
Manager- Enzo Maresca- 5.5/10
Even though Enzo Maresca‘s team was trailing two goals to nil, his half-time talk seemed to have magic as the Blues got back into the game and made sure they get at least one point out of the fixture.
Ipswich Town Player Ratings

GK- Alex Palmer- 5.5/10
Alex made quite a few saves to keep Chelsea at bay from scoring. However, he had way less trouble due to his defense’s performance in the afternoon today.
RB- Axel Tuanzebe- 5.5
Axel made a total of 4 clearances in the first half. He won all his aerial duels and ground duels in the first half, carrying out both his offensive and defensive duties well. Played his part in stopping dangerous crosses from the flanks in the second half.
CB- Dara O’Shea- 6/10
Dara made a total of 6 clearance and blocked 1 crucial shot in the first half that made sure that the Blues did not get one goal back and Ipswich Town have the 0-2 lead. Had a more commanding presence in his box in the second half.
CB- Cameron Burgess- 5.5/10
Cameron won all his ground duels in the first half, but he lost possession of the ball more than 6 times. He was one of the strongest reasons in Ipswich Town’s defense line why Chelsea could not score in the first half.
LB- Leif Davis- 5/10
Be it the offensive duties or defensive solidarity, Leif made sure he carried out his responsibilities well. Every time Ipswich Town went forward, he was there with his team. He seemed to spend more time on defense in the second half.
CM- Jens Cajuste- 5/10
Jens won 1 out of his 2 aerial duels in the first half. In the total minutes of the first half, he had maintained a 92% passing accuracy. He was the perfect partner of Sam Morsy today. He had to up the tempo of the game after they conceded the first goal.
CM- Sam Morsy- 5.5/10
Sam had a great game today if we take a look at the past few games of the Tractor Boys. He had better command on the ball, better passing, and a good vision in the pitch that allowed him to understand and control the game better.
CAM- Julio Enciso- 6/10
Enciso was full of energy today. He stepped up for his team in every attacking build-up. The midfielder finally got his goal in the 18th minute to give his team the well-deserved lead. He was the main man in every Ipswich Town attack.
RM- Ben Johnson- 5.5/10
Ben worked extremely hard today. And his hard work paid off when he doubled the team’s lead in the 30th minute when he scored with an amazing header. After a quick offside check, the goal was given.
LM- Jack Clarke- 5/10
Even though the Ipswich Town forwards did not see much of the ball, Jack maintained 83% passing accuracy. He had a total of 13 touches in the first half. In the second half, his performance vastly improved. He was subbed off in the 70th minute.
ST- George Hirst- 5/10
George had a total of 11 touches in the first half. However, he made sure of an 11% passing accuracy throughout the half. The forward lost possession 4 times. He had an attempt in the 53rd minute from outside the box, but the shot went a little wide of the post.
Sub- Conor Townsend- 4.5/10
Conor came onto the pitch around the 60th-minute mark. Kieran wanted fresh legs to cope with the demanding defensive and attacking duties after the score was 1-2.
Sub- Jaden-Philogene Bidace- 4/10
Even after Bidace’s introduction, nothing changed with the formation, he came in to take the place of Hirst, as the forward seemed to have an average day.
Sub- Liam Delap- 4.5/10
Liam finally came on in the 70th minute. The fans welcomed him with a round of applause. Kieran wanted to keep his star forward on the pitch for the rest of the match.
Sub- Jack Taylor- 4/10
Jack came onto the pitch on 74th minute. The idea for him was to see off the game and make sure no more goals are conceded. He took the spot of Enciso.
Sub- Nathan Broadhead- 4/10
After Philogene could not carry on minutes after coming in, the manager had no choice but to introduce Nathan to see off the game.
Manager- Kieran McKenna- 4.5/10
Kieran was visibly unhappy. And why wouldn’t he? His team lost from a comfortable 0-2 lead that they had in the first half. As of right now, relegation seems to be inevitable for his team.
Sportsdunia man of the match is Julio Enciso.
