The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 is just a few hours away from starting its 18th edition. For the last 17 seasons, the toughest T20 league in world cricket has entertained fans worldwide. It has also given rise to many young cricketers who have become next-generation superstars for the Indian team and other countries. The last edition of the tournament saw some record-breaking run chases and scores.

14 times the 225 runs mark was crossed in a T20 format. Reigning champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) will face Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. There will also be an opening ceremony, with singers Karan Aujla, Shreya Ghoshal, and famous actress Disha Patani performing. But some players will be missing out on the competition due to injuries.
After being picked in the mega auction the players were excited to play for their respective franchises. However, the injuries have struck them leading to miss the rich cash league. 10. Allah Ghazanfar (MI)

Allah Ghazanfar the promising spinner from Afghanistan was picked by Mumbai Indians (MI). But his IPL aspirations were broken even before they began. An untimely injury ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy has ruled him out of the season. It has been a major blow for the five-time champions, who secured his services for a massive INR 4.80 crore.

But Mumbai has announced the replacement for the same, the experienced spinner from Afghanistan Mujeeb ur Rahman will be joining the squad. He has the experience of playing in the IPL but he went unsold in the IPL 2025 auction. Now he has been announced as a replacement for his country teammate at just a base price of INR 2 crore.

9. Brydon Carse (SRH)

Brydon Carse, the English all-rounder was picked by the last edition finalist Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). He had to be ruled out before participating in his first-ever IPl campaign. An injury struck him during the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 clash against Australia. His all-round ability would have been an extra boost for the side he was bought for just INR 1 crore.

The Orange Army was quick to announce the replacement. They have asked for the services of South African cricketer Wiaan Mulder. He has been a like-for-like replacement for the English all-rounder. Mulder was roped in for the amount of INR 75 lakh, hoping he could step in and deliver under pressure for the Sunrisers Hyderabad.
8. Lizaad Williams (MI)

Mumbai Indians (MI) luck in the bowling department has not been the one they wanted. The side has been struck with some major blows before the start of the competition. South African pacer Lizaad Williams has been one of them. He was picked up for INR 75 lakh and had been gearing up to unleash his raw pace, but medical concerns have put his IPL dreams stranded.

The five-time champions announced the replacement who is also a pacer and was the net bowler of Rajasthan Royals. Corbin Bosch who is also a South African played for the MI Cape Town the sister franchise of the Mumbai Indians. He has been a bowling all-rounder who can bat lower down the order and has a big-hitting range as well.
7. Mohsin Khan (LSG)

Mohsin Khan the left-arm seamer had impressed with his swing bowling and hard-hitting lengths. He was with the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) for the last two seasons. But this year he has been ruled out due to an injury concern. He was sidelined due to an ACL injury that kept him out of cricket for the past three months. Since returning to bowling, he suffered a calf strain. That leads him to miss the IPL.

Shardul Thakur, the experienced all-rounder was unsold at the auction table. But he has been named as the replacement for Mohsin. His experience will be a key for the all-Indian bowling attack of LSG who has young pacers in their squad. Zaheer Khan will also be a bit relieved having secured the service of the Mumbai cricketer for the upcoming season.
6. Umran Malik (KKR)

The Kashmir pacer has been one of the most promising prospects of India’s fast-bowling lineup in the future. But he needs to work on his line and length to get more consistency. Umran Malik was dropped in by KKR for just INR 75 Lakh which was a steal buy with him under former Indian coach Bharat Arun could have been a blessing in disguise. But he unfortunately has been ruled out due to injury.

Chetan Sakariya a left-arm seamer with a knack for swinging the new ball and has slower cutters in his bag was a part of the KKR side previously. But he did not feature in any of the games for the side. This time he will have the chance with the competition being less and he needs to step up and showcase his talent for the Knights.
5. Mitchell Marsh (LSG)

Mitchell Marsh has been cleared to play as a batter in the IPL due to his lower back injury, which kept him aside from the Sri Lanka tour and ICC Champions Trophy. Marsh has not played a match since January 7, however, he is set to miss some of the initial games for the LSG due to the injury and he is yet to join the team and start his practice for the upcoming mega event. He will be available for the season, but an injury in between will lead to his replacement.
4. Harry Brook (DC)

Harry Brook who was picked by Delhi Capitals (DC) has withdrawn his name citing injury reasons. But the actual injury for the English batter has not been in the news yet. Brook was picked for INR 6.25 crore in the mega auction. However, there have been controversies over his withdrawal as his injury remains a suspicious thing for the cricketing world. As per the rules if he could not show the proper injury that means he will be banned from playing IPL for two more years and come again in the next mega auction. Delhi is yet to name his replacement.
3. Avesh Khan (LSG)

Avesh Khan who was picked by LSG, has been struggling with injury and is yet to be fully fit for the forthcoming IPL season. He was bought for a whopping price of INR 9.75 crore by the Giants. But now with clouds over his fitness, the side has been struggling to get the service of the Indian pacer during the initial stages of the competition. Shivam Mavi has been seen bowling in the nets and he might be a possible replacement for him looking at the condition of the pacer.
2. Mayank Yadav (LSG)

Mayank Yadav, India’s fastest bowler, was the buzz of the IPL 2024, earning a national call-up as a result of his performances. However, the 22-year-old has struggled with fitness, owing to his amazing bowling speed, which has resulted in recent injuries. Currently, he is under the supervision of professionals at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore. A development for the new Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) will be a sight of relief, but he is expected to miss half of the season.

1. Jasprit Bumrah (MI)

Jasprit Bumrah has been the superstar for India across formats. He has been India’s premium pacer and has been out of action since suffering a back spasm during the Border Gavaskar Trophy between Australia and India in Sydney earlier this year. The 31-year-old pacer missed the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. He has been recovering at the NCA and will miss the initial games of the IPL. It is a big blow for the Mumbai Indians who are gearing up for a better season after last season’s horrifying performance.
