All-Time IPL Orange Cap Winners List From 2008 -2024
Ever since the Indian Premier League (IPL) started in 2008, the game of Cricket has seen a great stride in its fan following. Although there were already a lot of fans of cricket globally before IPL, the format of the league changed the way cricket was watched and followed. One of the reasons behind IPL’s massive fanbase is the quality of players it has. And to honour these types of players, IPL introduced the titles, ‘Orange Cap’, and ‘Purple Cap’.
IPL has become the most famous franchise cricket league in the world, and no one comes near it. Even if we combine the brand value or fanbase of leagues like the Big Bash League (BBL), Caribbean Premier League (CPL), Pakistan Super League (PSL), and others, they will still be behind the Indian Premier League.
Players from almost all countries try hard to get a chance to be featured in IPL as they learn a lot by sharing the same dressing room with other countries’ players. However, in this article, we will talk about the players from different countries who proved their worth by becoming a key player for their teams, winning an ‘Orange Cap’. But before that, let’s know what the Orange Cap actually means and why it is given to a player.
What is IPL Orange Cap?
An ‘Orange Cap’ in IPL is given to a player who scores the most runs in the league. It comes into play after every franchise has played their first game in an IPL season. A player with the most runs gets to wear an orange cap in the matches he is featuring. However, the cap shifts to another player who surpasses the player who is at the top of the most run list.
When the tournament gets finished, the player who ends up being at the top of the most run-scorers list wins the Orange Cap of the season. The title was announced on 25th April 2008. It won’t be wrong to say that it’s a great way to honor a batter who has performed well for his team as well as individually throughout the season. With that said, let’s take a look at all the players who have won an Orange Cap in IPL history.
Shaun Marsh (2008)

Australia’s Shaun Marsh became the first-ever player in IPL history to win an Orange cap during the inaugural season of the league in 2008.
