Hull City vs Leicester City Preview, Prediction and Betting Tips

  • Date: 9 March, Saturday
  • Kick-off Time: 3:00 PM (GMT)
  • Stadium: MKM Stadium

Hull City vs Leicester City Preview:

The MKM Stadium will see Hull City host Leicester City in the Championship on Saturday, with Hull City desperately clinging onto a promotion play-off spot. The Tigers have enjoyed a good campaign till now, but have dropped crucial points in the last three weeks. Hull haven’t managed to win any of their three previous outings, earning a draw in all. This sudden fall out of form has helped Norwich City catch up in 7th place and now sit only two points behind Hull. However, Hull have been presented with an opportunity to put their woes behind them as they take on Leicester City at home.

At the other end are Leicester City. A few weeks ago, Leicester were 11 points clear at the top of the Championship table, perhaps feeling lonely. However, after three consecutive losses in a span of five outings, the Foxes now find their position in danger with Ipswich Town and Leeds both in close proximity. If Leicester continues dropping points at this rate, their chances of direct promotion could be reduced. The Foxes however come into the game at MKM Stadium with renewed hopes as they managed to salvage a 1-0 win against Sunderland last weekend.

The Tigers earned their third draw in as many weeks as the match between them and Birmingham ended 1-1 last week. A primary reason for Hull City’s struggles in the last few weeks has been their lack of attacking threat. The Tigers lost forward Liam Delap to a knee injury in January. The Englishman has been a crucial cog in enabling Hull to attack. In this campaign, Liam has been involved in 9G+A for Hull in the Championship. His knee injury ruled him out till April and has caused a lot of anguish for Hull.

Irish striker Aaron Connolly has also been a major reason behind Hull’s successful season in front of goal. The striker despite starting only 13 games has had 8 goals to his name in the league. However, he recently sustained a brutal leg injury which ruled him out till April. Together Aaron and Liam Delap have scored a total of 15 goals for Hull in the Championship this season and their absence has impaired the Tigers significantly.

The 2016 Premier League winners ended last season in the relegation zone of the Premier League table and found themselves in the Championship this campaign. However, the Foxes have improved dramatically in 23/24 and seem all set to return to the top flight of English football. Yet, injuries have tried their best to sabotage Leicester since the turn of the year.

On Saturday, Leicester will be without experienced campaigner Ricardo Pereira. The Portuguese national has nearly played all the minutes in the league for Leicester this season and is bound to be a big miss against Hull. He sustained an injury earlier this month and will remain sidelined till April. Midfielder Dennis Praet also picked up a hamstring injury recently and won’t make the trip to MKM Stadium.

Kasey McAteer is also suffering from some physical discomfort but might return to the bench for the tie against Hull.
