Cadiz are all set to host Atletico Madrid in La Liga on matchday 28. The club from the Andalusia region are currently enduring a turbulent period as they have failed to win any of their last five outings. Cadiz are currently ranked 18th in the La Liga and are five points from safety. With Granada slowly racking up points, Cadiz could be in serious trouble if they don’t find form soon.

The club returned to La Liga after 14 years in the 20/21 campaign and have enjoyed a decent few seasons since then. However, the club has fallen prey to inconsistency and injuries this season. Faced with big boys Atletico, Cadiz will be worried about sinking to another defeat. However, they will also be a little hopeful as Atletico has suffered away from home this season.

Arriving in Cadiz after a comfortable 2-1 win against Real Betis are Atletico Madrid. Los Colchoneros have played brilliant football this season, but have fallen flat in the last few weeks. While they started the campaign as favorites to win the league given the long injury lists of Real Madrid and Barcelona, the club now seems to have settled for a top-four spot.

Simeone and his men will be a little disappointed for failing to capitalize on their good position in all competitions. Atletico exited the Copa del Rey after losing in both legs of the semi-final to Athletic Bilbao in a competition they could’ve easily won since Barcelona and Real Madrid were already knocked out. Atletico also trail 1-0 to Inter in the UEFA Champions League. However, they will be hopeful of turning the tie around in the second leg at home.

The Andalusians enter the battle at home against Atletico with a considerable injury list. Their injury list has also led to their recent poor performances due to a lack of options. Last weekend Cadiz managed to salvage a 1-1 draw against Rayo who were unlucky to not win the game.

Cadiz will be without experienced center back Fali against Atletico. The center back sustained a thigh injury in February and will return later this month. His partner in defense, Luis Hernandez, will also miss the tie as he continues to recover from his knee injury. Veteran striker Roger continues to remain sidelined with his ankle injury. He sustained the injury just as he was finally finding form this campaign. Unfortunate. 

Cadiz will rue the absence of Joseba Zaldua who picked up an injury in their outing against Rayo Vallecano. He will return at the end of the month. 

Atletico Madrid:

Los Colchoneros have been hands down the best side at home in La Liga this season. Their performance against Real Betis last weekend at home without superstar Antoine Griezmann is further evidence of the fact. However, away from home the club has suffered. Partially their issues have arisen because of constant injuries and lack of mobility in the midfield and defense. 

As Atletico travel to Cadiz, they will continue functioning without the presence of Antoine Griezmann. To arrive in Cadiz without their best player is certainly a massive blow to Atletico. However, the club management is positive that the Frenchman will return for the clash next week against Inter Milan in the Champions League. Griezmann is accompanied by ex-Chelsea defender Cesar Azpilicueta as he recovers from his injury. The Spanish defender won’t return until April. Defender Jose Gimenez is in the final stages of his recovery, but is unlikely to be risked for the Cadiz tie.

Vitolo and Thomas Lemar remain on the sidelines with their long-term injuries. They haven’t been involved in first-team dynamics a lot at all this campaign.

Even without superstar Antoine Griezmann, Atletico have enough firepower to secure three points.
