Will Manuel Neuer Play Tonight for Bayern Munich?

Bayern Munich fans must be sweating over the fact that their veteran goalkeeper, Manuel Neuer, was subbed off during their 3-0 win over Bundesliga rivals Bayer Leverkusen in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League Last 16 tie at the Allianz Arena, earlier this week. The 38-year-old shot stopper injured himself while celebrating Jamal Musiala’s strike in their resounding win over the Xabi Alonso-managed side.

Eventually, Neuer’s Wednesday outing was cut short and was replaced by new signing Jonas Urbig in goal after the half-time interval in the 58th minute of the European clash. Despite his aging, the World Cup winner has been phenomenal in between the sticks for the Bavarians, keeping 18 clean sheets in 33 appearances across all competitions in this 2024/25 campaign.

As per reports, the German International has sustained a ‘tear to a muscle fiber in his right calf’ and is anticipated to remain on the sidelines for the Immediate. Bayern confirmed the injury news following medical examination at the club facility. The club stated, “The diagnosis was confirmed by the FC Bayern medical unit. The record champions’ goalkeeper will therefore be out for the foreseeable future.”

It is being said that the Bavarian number is unavailable for selection in their next 3 to 4 games, including the reverse fixture of the second leg clash of the Champions League against Bundesliga champions Leverkusen, next week. Therefore, Neuer is set to be sidelined from their home league fixture against VfL Bochum on Saturday.
