PSV Eindhoven 1-7 Arsenal Player Ratings: Gunners Demolish the Boeren’s away from home in a one-sided UCL clash

Arsenal delivered a scintillating performance at the Philips Stadion, dismantling PSV 7-1 in their Round of 16 Champions League clash. The Gunners were ruthless in front of goal, putting on an attacking clinic that left the Dutch side reeling.

Arsenal wasted no time asserting their dominance, opening the scoring in the 18th minute through Jurrien Timber, who powered home a header from a pinpoint Declan Rice cross.

The lead doubled just three minutes later, with Ethan Nwaneri firing into the roof of the net following a low cross from Myles Lewis-Skelly. PSV’s defensive woes continued in the 31st minute when Mikel Merino capitalized on a misplaced pass inside the box to slot home Arsenal’s third.

PSV managed to pull one back before halftime when Noa Lang converted from the penalty spot after Thomas Partey was penalized for a foul inside the box. However, the Dutch side’s hopes of a comeback were dashed soon after the restart.

Arsenal came out flying in the second half, and within minutes, Martin Ødegaard extended their lead, pouncing on a rebound to fire into the bottom corner. The floodgates remained open as Leandro Trossard made it 5-1 in the 48th minute, lifting the ball over PSV goalkeeper Walter Benítez after a neat combination with Riccardo Calafiori.

Ødegaard continued his midfield dominance, grabbing his second of the night in the 73rd minute with a strike from outside the box that slipped through Benítez’s hands. Calafiori capped off Arsenal’s stunning display in the 85th minute, latching onto an Ødegaard through-ball before calmly slotting past the keeper to make it 7-1.

With PSV fans leaving the stadium early, Arsenal celebrated a performance of clinical efficiency, scoring seven goals from relatively few chances. PSV, despite some promising attacks, struggled to contain the relentless pace and precision of Mikel Arteta’s side.

This dominant win all but seals Arsenal’s progression to the quarter-finals, barring a miracle in the second leg. The Gunners will now turn their attention to their domestic campaign, buoyed by this emphatic victory.
