James Harden was an immediate success in the NBA due to his shooting skills. He was on a roll in terms of scoring buckets over the years, which can be categorized into the following sections based on his stint with the league:

Oklahoma City Thunder (2009-2012)

Harden started his career journey with the Oklahoma City Thunder as a 6th man. James Harden, along with legends like Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook, helped the Thunder reach the 2012 Finals in the NBA. James later went on to win the NBA Sixth Man of the Year Award in the same year.

He was a record holder in his debut season because Harden recorded the fourth-highest 3-point percentage in NBA history (.375) for a player under the age of 21 (minimum of 150 attempts) during the 2009–10 season. He got his spot on the All-Rookie second team during his debut season. He averaged 16.8 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 3.7 assists during 2011-12 and led his team to the 2012 NBA Finals alongside Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook. However, after not agreeing to a contract extension, he was later traded to the Houston Rockets on October 27, 2012.

Houston Rockets (2012-2021)

After being traded to the Houston Rockets, Harden became a franchise player, winning the MVP award in 2018. James also recorded historic performances and led the league in scoring multiple times, including multiple 50-point games. In his debut Rockets game against the Detroit Pistons, he tallied 37 points, a career-high 12 assists, and six rebounds. After locking an extension with the Houston Rockets on July 9, 2016, he took on the role of the point guard.

During the 2017-18 season, Harden won his first scoring title with 30.4 points per game. The same year, he earned the league MVP award. He was on a scoring spree in 2018-19, in which he recorded his career-high 61 points against the New York Knicks and the San Antonio Spurs in the same season. He demanded a trade to the team in November 2022.

Brooklyn Nets (2021-2022) & Philadelphia 76ers (2022-2023)

On January 14, 2021, Harden was traded to the Brooklyn Nets in a four-team deal to join hands with stars like Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving. However, due to the compatibility issues that he faced within the team, he was transferred again next year to the Philadelphia 76ers on February 10, 2022. He joined Wilt Chamberlain as the only player in Sixers history to put up a 20-assist triple-double. Harden even reached the Eastern Conference Semi-Finals in the 2022-23 season but eventually lost to the Boston Celtics in the end. He then requested a trade to the team management.

Los Angeles Clippers (2023-Present)

Harden reunited with Russell Westbrook again on November 1, 2023, when he joined the Los Angeles Clippers in a trade. Harden recorded his 78th career triple-double, tying Wilt Chamberlain for seventh in NBA history on November 2, 2024. He dished out 25 points, 10 rebounds, and 13 assists that night in a 125–119 loss against the Phoenix Suns. He also scored his 3,000th career three-pointer, joining Curry as the only player to reach the milestone. As of early 2025, James Harden is currently in a relationship with Paije Speights, a fashion designer. The couple made their relationship public when both of them appeared at the former NBA player Rajon Rondo’s wedding in June 2024. They entered the wedding and it was the talk of the town because Paije even caught the bridal bouquet from Rondo’s bride, LaToia Fitzgerald. It was a total coincidence because Paije later clarified on her social media, “I wasn’t even participating lol. I’m standing outside the circle in the back. The bouquet landed right at my feet. Hey a win is a win.”

Harden reacted in his own way to the Instagram story by reposting the quote with the deer in the headlights expression meme. It was a laughter riot for James Harden’s fans. Lately, he was seen with his beau during New Year’s Eve when Speights shared a series of pictures with Harden captioned, “New year. Same us.”

Monja Willis and James Harden Sr. are the parents of James Harden. His father played basketball for Arizona State University and even made it to the Golden State Warriors during the 1978 NBA Draft as a second-round pick. But he never debuted in an NBA game. So, he started playing international basketball league to make a fortune. Amid all of this, Monja single-handedly raised Harden while doing the job.

Monja Willis was a nurse in California, and later she relocated to Arizona to work as a medical administrator. Surprisingly, involving her kids in sports was just a way for Monja to keep them out of trouble. However, Harden’s passion for basketball outdid everything.

Harden started his shoe journey with Nike. He signed a deal with the brand in 2009 and then again in 2013. However, to fans’ surprise, Harden switched to Adidas during his rise to success during his stint with the Houston Rockets. He inked a 13-year, $200 million contract with Adidas in 2015. The Los Angeles Clippers guard holds the honor of having the second-longest running sneaker line with the brand behind Milwaukee Bucks guard Damian Lillard.

He got an Adidas Harden shoe lined and has released eight signature shoe editions since he inked the deal. On the switch that he made to Adidas, Harden said, “It’s about the voice, it’s about creating, it’s about the things I have in my hand, designing and wanting it to get out so people around the world can get it.” His signature shoe line was initiated with the Adidas Harden Vol. 1 in 2016.

Over time, the shoe line evolved with annual releases. Last year in December, he released the Harden Vol. 9. It features multi-directional traction that offers a radial traction pattern for a quick change of direction and pace to make moves at the drop of a feather. The ‘Cyber Metallic’ version of this shoe line will officially launch on Saturday, January 25, 2025.

Usually, the basketball shoes are considered classy for the outings or off the court, apart from Jordans. However, James Harden makes sure that the shoes that he makes are suitable on and off the court.

James Harden wore two numbers during his stint in the league while playing for five different teams. While playing for the Oklahoma City Thunder, Houston Rockets, and Brooklyn Nets, James Harden wore the number 13 jersey in different colors and themes.

Wearing the number 1 jersey for the Philadelphia 76ers was a compulsion for Harden. Apparently, the 76ers had retired the number 13 jersey in honour of the NBA Hall of Fame Wilt Chamberlain. However, he continued with the number 1 jersey number when he joined the Los Angeles Clippers.
