Chelsea ready to pay ‘six-figure sum’ for Brighton’s super-scout Sam Jewell

Ever since Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital bought Chelsea, the American has made sweeping changes to the club’s backroom staff. That, however, has meant poaching several staff from Brighton and Hove Albion including former manager Graham Potter and and coaches Billy Reid, Bjorn Hamberg, Bruno Saltor and Ben Roberts. Not only that, the Blues have signed several players including Marc Cucurella and Moises Caicedo for big fees.

But the changes to the backroom staff is because Boehly and co reportedly want to build the club around Kyle Macauley and sporting director Paul Winstanley. Both men were also poached from the Seagulls and have been key figures in revamping Chelsea’s scouting and analytics department. It has seen Blues chase after Brighton’s former head of recruitment, Sam Jewell.

Chelsea ready to pay six-figure sum to sign Sam Jewell

The 34-year-old has risen quickly through the ranks after starting as a scout at Newport before moving to Swindon Town as a chief scout for 10 months. He was then poached by the Seagulls and has played a key role in the club bringing in several players including Caicedo and Alexis Mac Allister. However, Football London has now reported that the Stamford Bridge side are ready to shell out at least six figures to bring in Jewell.

He is currently on gardening leave which he was put on less than a few after the Guardian and the Athletic reported that Chelsea had managed to agree to a deal with Jewell. The reports indicated that the Brighton man was tempted by the offer of a new and big challenge at Chelsea. The Blues are keen on making the 34-year-old a key figure in their multi-club operation and believe he is the right man.

The Athletic has reported that Jewell is currently serving his notice period and is set to join Chelsea in November 2024 but Football London has reported that he could join sooner. The report has indicated that Chelsea will have to pay at least a big six-figure compensation to the Amex side to secure Jewell’s services before November. The Blues, reportedly, believe that the 34-year-old is worth that especially given Newcastle United’s asking rate for Sporting Director Dan Ashworth.
