Tottenham vs Manchester United Player Rating: James Maddison’s strike sinks Man United

Tottenham hosted Manchester United at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the English Premier League, game week 25 on Sunday, February 16. The home side started the first ten minutes passing the ball around before they started moving towards the Red Devils penalty box. The Spurs did ask a few questions with crosses in the box and created all sorts of problems for the Manchester United defence. All of a sudden, Vicario is called into action with a superb long ball from Maguire, who picked the running Hojlund but unfortunately, couldn’t score.

The Spurs and James Maddison caught Manchester United players ball-watching as Onana pushed away a shot from Bergvall, and Maddison was quick to latch onto it and scored a simple tap-in, giving his side the lead. Ruben Amorim-led side struggled to get a hang of the ball in the first 25 minutes of the game, giving away possession and losing the ball easily. How has Garnacho missed this? Fernandes and Zirkzee created a sensational chance for Garnacho, yet the young Argentine winger fumbled it and hit it high in the sky.

Tottenham had the complete upper hand against the Man United team during the first half of the game, with 66% ball possession, 296 passes, and 5 total shots. While Man United had 138 passes with 8 shots not to mention their 34% ball possession. Is today the night for Tottenham and their fans? Will they get to taste a victory after 105 days Or will the wait continues? Let’s find out.

The Red Devils begin the second half with a few good passes, Kulusveski dragging a player down and giving away a free kick. Spence continued to a frustrated Man United and Dalot with his speed and precise crosses into the box. Zirkzee threaded a good pass to pick Garnacho but couldn’t beat Vicario. Man United had a great start to the second half, with better possession, control and impactful crosses.

After a period of dominance by Manchester United in the midfield, Tottenham regained possession and continued creating pressure on the opposition’s defence. Zirkzee alongside Garnacho and Hojlund had a few moments of brilliance but still couldn’t breach the defensive duo and Vicario. Tottenham enjoyed 46% possession with a staggering 17 shots in the second half and two chances, meanwhile, Man United had 54% possession with 195 passes and 8 shots.

With this win, the Spurs will move to the 12th position in the table, on the other hand, the struggling Manchester United is in the 15th position with 1 1-point difference between both sides. Ruben Amorim-led side today looked unthreatening most of the time in front of the goal, they missed a proper goal scorer.

Crowds were well behind the Spurs throughout the game as the home stadium was filled with the echos of chants like, “We’re the Park Lane Tottenham”, “Come on You Spurs”, “Nice one Sunny”, and “Gimme Gimme Gimme a Ginger from Sweden.”
