Inter Miami Player Ratings 2–2 Orlando City: Lionel Messi’s Side Ends Pre-Season Undefeated After a Stoppage Time Goal From Picault
The final pre-season friendly game between Orlando City and Inter Miami ended as a 2-2 draw at the Raymond James Stadium on Friday. A stoppage-time goal from Fafa Picault helped the Herons stay undefeated in the preparation phase of the campaign. Orlando City’s attacking midfielder Martin Ojeda had a good game scoring one and assisting one.
The match started with a decent intensity as both sides were looking to have a mark. Around the 6th minute, a goal was nearly scored by Inter Miami’s corner kick from a close cross, but Cesar Araujo stopped it. Suárez was upset because he had the opportunity to score first. Just two minutes later, Messi nearly scores the opening goal, but Leo is stopped from completing by captain Jansson.
In the fifteenth minute of the game, Orlando City had their first chance of the game and found the back of the net. Martin Ojeda scored the opening goal of the evening after rallying from the previous play. He scores the goal after a terrible defensive outburst from Oscar Ustari. Just seven minutes later, Tadeo Allende levels the scoring after a quick one-two from former Atletico Madrid striker Luis Suarez. In the 39th minute, Ustari threw it to the corner following a fantastic strike by Pasalic, and Orlando came very close to making it 2-1.
The first half ended with Inter Miami dominating the major part of the possession and recording eight shots, out of which three were on target. Inter Miami looked more calm on the ball as compared to their opposition and was very much fluid with the positioning of the players.
Five minutes into the second half, the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner was close to scoring his first goal of the night with a left footed shot from a free kick outside the box. Orlando made the score line 2-1 from a free kick after a bad foul was committed by Busquets around the 52nd minute. Ramiro Enrique found the back of the net from the centre of the box after an assist from Martin Ojeda. Around the 67th minute Messi looked for the equaliser but his header was stopped by the opposition goalkeeper Gallese. This event led to a fight between the players as Messi brought down a player during the process.
The stadium gave a standing ovation for Lionel Messi, as the best in the world is being subbed off to bring on Santiago Morales. A huge round of applause was also seen as Luis Suarez also left the pitch around the 75th minute. In the 83rd minute, Orlando had their lead secured with a third goal but Gustavo Carballo’s shot from the centre of the box was well saved by Ustari. In the stoppage time, Inter Miami levels the game after Robert Taylor’s shot was blocked and Fafa Picault netted it on the rebound to keep the Mascherano’s side undefeated in the pre-season fixtures.
