AZ 4–1 Galatasaray Player Ratings: Eredivisie Side Run Riot As Kaan Ayhan Gets Sent Off

AZ have all but sealed their place in the Round of 16 with a stunning win at home to Galatasaray. The home side won 4-1 in the first leg and now have one leg in the next round.

Sven Mijnans opened the scoring in the 12th minute with a stunning free-kick. Ronald Salli then produced some magic at the other end with a brilliant goal to make it 1-1.

However, it was all one-way traffic from then and they got some help from Galatasaray as they gave away a cheap penalty. Parrott converted from the spot and that saw the home side take a 2-1 lead into half time.

Kaan Ayhan got sent off just minutes after the restart and that saw AZ take more control of the game. Clasie and Wolfe scored in quick succession to make it 4-1 in the 66th minute and that was enough to seal the win.

AZ Player Ratings vs Galatasaray

Rome Jayden Owusu-Oduro – 6.5: Had to make just one save today and almost kept out the goal as well. However, the strike was simply too good and the ball flew in despite his best efforts.

Defenders

Seiya Maikuma – 7.5: The right-back was at his best today but was more involved in helping out in possession than anything else. He stayed back and ensured that there was no space for Galatasaray to exploit.

Wouter Goes – 7: He stayed back and ensured that Alvaro Morata had no real chance to score. He was on the toes of Yilmaz as well when needed.

Alexandre Penetra – 7: He too was comfortable at the back and hardly put a foot wrong. MOrata and Yilmaz struggled against the AZ center-backs.

David Moller Wolfe – 7.5: He was up and down the left flank today and never looked like he was going to stop. Got a goal as well to sealed the big win.

Midfielders

Peer Koopmeiners – 7: He was all over the pitch and ready to help out as and when needed. Was taken off in the 77th minute as he had ran out of wind.

Jordy Clasie – 7.5: A decent match even without the goal. He was making excellent runs and managed to get his side all the control they needed in the game.

Ernest Poku – 6: He was brilliant in making runs into the box, but was poor in the final third. Missed two golden chances in the first 25 minutes – one of them after rounding the keeper.

Sven Mijnans – 8: The freekick at the start of the game was simply superb and deserved a goal. He was relentless on the pitch and hungry for more goals today.

Mayckel Lahdo – 5.5: He was trying to make things happen for AZ but just not good enough. Easily the one who struggled to do much in attack today.

Troy Parrott – 7.5: He was in and around the box throughout the match and got on the scoresheet from the spot in the game.

Galatasaray Player Ratings vs AZ

Fernando Muslera – 7: The goalkeeper made 4 saves today but conceded as many times. He was getting exposed a lot as his defenders failed to do much in the game.

Defenders

Carlos Cuesta – 6: He was on the pitch for the entire game and that’s the most that can be said about his performance. Lackluster and hardly made an impact.

Abdulkerim Bardakci – 7.5: Made an insane last-man block inside the first 20 minutes after Poku got past the goalkeeper. He had another clearance off the line but could not do much to stop the goals.

Berkan Kutlu – 6: He was just not able to do much today against Poku. Struggled throughout the game and failed to win most of his duels.

Midfielders

Ronald Sallai – 7.5: He was the best player on the pitch today for Galatasaray. Scored a stunning goal to get them back level at 1-1 but that was his only shot in the game.

Kaan Ayhan – 3: He got booked twice for fouls and was sent off early in the second half. That all but ended Galatasaray’s chances in the game and opened the floodgates.

Gabriel Sara – 6.5: He was trying his best but got no support around him. He was all over the pitch but hardly got to do much in the final third.

Elias Jelert – 6: A match to forget for the wing-back. Struggled to get involved and failed to do much in attack or defense.

Forward

Dries Mertens – 6: He hardly got the ball today and never managed to get close to the box. His only shot in the game was blocked with ease.

Alvaro Morata – 4: He was on the pitch for the full game but it was almost like he was playing for AZ and not Galatasaray.

Baris Alper Yilmaz – 5: Gave away the penalty and hardly got involved in the attacks. A match to forget for him.
