Plymouth Argyle hosted Liverpool at the Home Park, Plymouth in the Emirates FA Cup Round 4 game on Saturday, February 9 and the visitors started the first half in dominating fashion. A couple of minutes into the game Liverpool already knocked the ball in the final third. Plymouth also threaded a few balls into the Liverpool box with a quick attack.
Eight minutes down in the first half and the Reds are forced to make a change after Joseph Gomez landed awkwardly and had to be subbed. Brief delay in the game, as Katic looked to be in pain and discomfort after taking a hit to his face which made him bleed by his teammate, Randall.
Liverpool were dominating the possession with more than 79% throughout the first half of the contest but were still unable to pierce Plymouth’s defense. They only managed to get a single shot on target, meanwhile, Plymouth’s side was seen as comfortable defending and looked for a quick counter-attack. With 312 passes exchanged between the Reds in the park, they were still unable to open up and score against the Plymouth. Pleguezuelo, Katic, and Talovierov were rock solid for their team to ensure that the score at the halftime whistle stayed 0-0.
The second half began with Liverpool players knocking and passing the ball around. Again Plymouth came flying down the left side with Wright cutting in around the box before having a go at the goal behind Endo managed to deflect it for a corner kick. Sorinola threw a long ball inside the field as Gyabi flicked the balls inside the box it hit the trailing hand of Harvey Elliott, giving away a ‘PENALTY’ to the home side. Ryan Hardie didn’t make any sort of mistake and shot the ball into the bottom left corner and Plymouth in front.
The Reds continued with their possession game (70%) throughout the second half and looked more comfortable in the opposition half. Liverpool took more than 6 shots but failed to get even one on target. McConnell fires with goalkeeper out of his line but Katic did well to cover it but it goes wide and out.
