Jurgen Klopp has announced that he will leave the Reds at the end of the season, saying that “he is running out of energy.” The German manager’s staff will also depart with him while sporting director Jordge Schmadtke has already left the club. Hence, Liverpool’s hierarchy are set to make a big change and several managers have been linked with the job.

One of the names on the list is Sporting CP manager Ruben Amorim. However, the Portuguese manager won’t come cheap, as reported by David Ornstein. He said on ‘The Athletic Football Podcast’:

“Ruben Amorim’s got a release clause in his contract. It was, I think a year ago when Chelsea spoke to him, it was up at €20 million.

“Now I understand it’s €10 million, which people might feel is low, especially if it was a player signing. But that is high for a managerial appointment, whether we like it or not.”

Amorim’s contract with Sporting CP runs until 2026 and he has been linked with a number of clubs apart from Liverpool FC as well. The Portuguese manager previously spoke to Chelsea in the summer of 2022. He was also linked with the Tottenham Hotspur job last summer.

Moreover, Bayern Munich and Barcelona are also set to be in the managerial market with Thomas Tuchel and Xavi Hernandez set to leave in the summer. Hence, another opportunity could open up for Amorim directly at either these two clubs or indirectly at some other club.

Liverpool target Ruben Amorim’s managerial career so far

Amorim was a midfielder during his playing days and played for the likes of Benfica and Braga. He retired in 2015 and joined Lisbon Coaching Association to get his coaching medals.

He started with a third-division team named Casa Pia before being appointed as Benfica’s U23 side’s manager. Amorim was then appointed Braga’s head coach and he spent a year at the club, winning the Taca da Liga.

He then joined Sporting CP in the summer of 2020. He has led the side for 196 games, winning 137 of them, drawing 29, and losing 30. He has won two Primeira Liga titles, one Taca da Liga, and one Supertaca Candido de Oliveira with the Portuguese side.

Sporting are again engrossed in a title race and sits two points behind leaders Benfica with a game in hand in the league standings.
