FPL GW24: Should you Triple Captain Salah or use Assistant Manager chip?

This is one of the most interesting FPL gameweeks coming up given that it is the first double gameweek of the season. A double gameweek is one where particular teams play twice because of other commitments in weeks prior or after that particular gameweek. This weekend, it is Merseyside rivals Liverpool and Everton who are having a double gameweek.

Top of the table Liverpool face Bournemouth and Everton. Bournemouth have been in tremendous form and this will be a very difficult game for the Reds. That being said however, Liverpool have barely had any problem playing against anyone this season so they will still be hopeful for a good result. For Everton though, things haven’t been as good. They currently sit 16th, on the back of two big wins since the return of David Moyes at the helm of the club. Their game before the Merseyside derby is versus Leicester City who are just one spot behind them in the table.

This raises the conundrum about which chips to use this week. The main doubt is between the Triple Captain and the Assistant Manager. Let us take a closer look at both.

Which chip should you use in Double Gameweek 24?

Triple Captain GW24

The triple captain chip gives the captain 3x their points in a gameweek instead of the usual 2x. This is usually used by people in a double gameweek because it gives 3x on the points of two games. The obvious triple captaincy candidate is obviously Mohamed Salah. The Egyptian has 222 points in FPL this season, a whopping 55 more than anyone else. He has an insane record this season, with 19 goals and 13 assists.

That being said, Bournemouth are difficult opponents and since the duo of Dean Huijsen and Ilya Zabarnyi have been starting games, they have barely conceded. Everton for all their struggles are 6th for goals conceded in the league, despite their actual position being 16th. While out of the two chips, it’s definitely the better option, it’s possibly better to save it for when Salah himself has another double gameweek, or even for the likes of Cole Palmer or Erling Haaland.

Assistant Manager GW24

The Assistant Manager is the newest chip in FPL. Real-life managers are included and will get points based on the results, goalscoring, etc of their teams. The manager selected will remain a part of your team for three GWs. That would mean that the obvious choice is Arne Slot of Liverpool. But no, there is an interesting caveat.

If your chosen manager faces a club ranked at least five places higher in the Premier League table at the start of the Gameweek, you get an extra 10 points for a win, so 16 in total, or an additional five points for a draw, so eight in total. Given Slot’s Liverpool are top, choosing him doesn’t seem like the best use of resources. David Moyes of Everton can be an interesting choice though. The Toffees have beaten Spurs and Brighton consecutively and apart from their fixtures are Leicester, Liverpool, Crystal Palace, and Manchester United. This is the riskier choice though.
