Man United vs Fulham Player Ratings as Alex Iwobi sinks United at Old Trafford!

Man United vs Fulham kicked off on a cloudy Saturday afternoon and an exciting battle ensued at Old Trafford. United trailed for most of the game before Harry Maguire displayed fantastic reflexes to help United equalize. However, a sensational goal from Alex Iwobi late into injury time helped Fulham leave Old Trafford with a 2-1 win.

In what was deemed to be an easy fixture for United, the Red Devils struggled to control the game. Manchester United created a plethora of chances, but it was Calvin Bassey for Fulham who scored first. His goal in the 65th minute helped Fulham take a well-deserved lead.

Man United continued to press forward in hopes of scoring but to no avail. Finally in the 90th minute, as United grew more anxious, Leno spilled the ball in the box for Maguire to take advantage of and score. However, the goal didn’t deter Fulham who kept looking for opportunities and scored a goal late into injury time. Alex Iwobi finished his chance with perfection in the 96th minute and sunk Man United at Old Trafford.

André Onana (GK):  6.8/10

In what has been a poor start to his career at United, Onana had another average display in goal. However, the goalkeeper made 3 saves in goal.

Diogo Dalot: 6.6/10

The right-back seemed exhausted in possession and lacked creative intent. He completed 43 passes.

Raphaël Varane:  6.4/10

The ex-Real Madrid man was caught napping several times in defense and failed to keep up with Fulham’s attackers.

Harry Maguire:  8/10

Man United’s ex-captain, Harry Maguire, did everything right on the night and almost saved his club from an embarrassing defeat. Unfortunately for him, Iwobi had other ideas. 

Victor Lindelöf:  7/10

The center-back did well out of position in left-back until he left the pitch injured. He played two key passes, but ten Hag will be worried about his fitness for the next game. 

Kobbie Mainoo:  7.5 /10

Mainoo made a rare start for the club and did his level best next to Casemiro in a double pivot.

Casemiro:  7/10

Casemiro was enjoying a good performance in midfield before he was subbed off abruptly in the 53rd minute. Man United will hope he hasn’t sustained too serious of an injury. 

Alejandro Garnacho:  7.75/10

The Argentinian youngster continued his sensational form and was the only creative outlet for United. Garnacho played three key passes and completed 2 dribbles. 

Bruno Fernandes:  7.5/10

Manchester United’s captain was in fine form in the midfield, however, lacked the final pass. He also earned a yellow card. Bruno had four shots on target and accumulated a 0.13 xG.

Omari Forson:  6.25/10

Omari made his first start for Manchester United and seemed a little out of depth. The 19-year-old had an impressive 90% pass completion rate.

Marcus Rashford:  6.7/10

Man United’s star boy had a night to forget in front of goal. He played the entire game for United but had only one shot on target. Man United missed Rasmus Højlund tonight.

Manchester United Substitutes:

Scott McTominay: 6/10

McTominay was subbed on for Casemiro but barely made an impact on the game. He did, however, play one key pass.

Christian Eriksen: 7/10

The Danish midfielder had a sensational cameo after coming on for Forson. He created one big chance and played 4 key passes. Eriksen completed 38 passes with an 87% completion rate. 

Amad Diallo: 6/10

Diallo played only for 20 minutes. He completed 13 passes on the night

Antony:

Came on in the 90+9 minute and didn’t have time to make an impact.

Bernd Leno (GK):  8/10

Bernd Leno made a couple of crucial saves to deny United and help Fulham leave Old Trafford victorious. He also earned a yellow card for time-wasting in the dying embers of the game.

Timothy Castagne:  7.5/10

The right-back suffocated United attackers on the wing and also created a couple of chances.  Timothy also earned himself an assist on Bassey’s goal.

Tosin Adarabioyo:  6.7/10

Tosin struggled to contain Garnacho. Adarabioyo made an impressive four clearances.

Calvin Bassey:  7.75/10

The defender scored the first goal of the night and gave Fulham the lead. Bassey was also amazing in defense.

Antonee Robinson:  7.8/10

Robinson was sensational going forward and in defense for Fulham. Antonee made a goal line clearance to keep Fulham ahead.

Harrison Reed:  6.7/10

Captain Reed came off in the 77th minute and played a pivotal role in keeping Fulham ahead. Fulham will be concerned as Reed seemed to be struggling with an injury.

Saša Lukić:  7.2/10

Lukic was extremely strong in defense and seemed impossible to brush past. Lukic won ⅚ ground duels and all his aerial duels. Clutch.

Harry Wilson:  7.25/10

Wilson had another good outing before being subbed off as a precaution.

Andreas Pereira:  7.2/10

Pereira played 5 key passes today and completed four crosses into the box.

Alex Iwobi:  8.25/10

Iwobi scored the winning goal and will return home as a hero. Alex was sensational all night and played 4 key passes today as well.

Rodrigo Muniz:  7.25/10

Muniz came close to scoring several times. Rodrigo played one key pass and hit the woodwork once. 

Fulham Substitutes:

Tom Cairney: 6.5/10

Cairney came on in the 70th minute and essentially added physicality to the Fulham team at Old Trafford.

Adama Traore: 7.5/10

Adama dribbled past Maguire with intent at the end and played a perfect ball for Iwobi to receive and score the winning goal. Best cameo of the afternoon.

Issa Diop: 6.7/10

Issa came on in the 81st minute for Harry Wilson and didn’t have too much of a role to play. Diop made two tackles and 1 clearance. 

Next up after Man United vs Fulham:

The loss will hurt Man United’s chances of finishing in a Champions League spot, while Fulham consolidated their position in the middle of the league. United face a FA Cup tie against Nottingham Forest midweek, while Fulham host Brighton next weekend.
