Tottenham vs Wolves Player Ratings – Van de Ven and Vicario shine, Son quiet

Tottenham could not keep their winning run at home going as they were beaten 2-1 by Wolverhampton this Premier League gameweek. Ange Postecoglou’s side fell behind just before the halftime whistle, while Joao Gomes scored for the away side.

Dejan Kulusevski pulled the home side level just seconds after the second half started. However, they could not push on for a second and were made to pay by Wolves.

Gomes made it a brace for himself with a goal just after the hour mark and the away side held on. Ben Davies had the chance to equalize right at the very end, but he put his free header out from inside the six-yard box.

Here are the player ratings from the Tottenham vs Wolverhampton match:

Tottenham Player Ratings:

Guglielmo Vicario – 6 | Could not have done a lot more with the two goals conceded as they were down to Gomes getting space inside the box. Made three decent saves in the game and misplaced just one pass, which was a long ball.

Emerson Royal – 6.5 | Pick of the defenders this week for Tottenham even though he was starting because of Pedro Porro missing out.

Cristian Romero – 6 | Decent outing for the Argentine but he could have done better in tracking back for the second goal. He was nowhere near the box when Wolves scored on the counter.

Micky van de Ven – 6 | Nothing much Van de Ven could have done about the first goal, but he was close to the action when Gomes scored the second. Could have stayed near the penalty spot and blocked the shot instead of running towards Pedro Neto.

Ben Davies – 5.5 | He proved why the manager pushed for Destiny Udogie and how much they rely on the young Italian. The Welshman had an outing to forget and should be back on the bench next week.

Pape Matar Sarr – 7 | The midfielder had little influence on the game as he was more involved in getting the ball from the right flank to the left than to the attackers.

Yves Bissouma – 7.5 | A decent match for the midfielder but very similar to Sarr. He was taken off in the 71st minute along with his midfield partner.

Dejan Kulusevski – 8.5 | Scored the goal with his only shot on target in the game to give Tottenham some hope. However, he was unable to get more involved in the attack despite playing the full match.

James Maddison – 7 | Tried his best to create chances for his side but was just unable to get past the Wolves defence. His only shot went off target while just one of his 10 crosses reached a Tottenham player.

Son Heung-min – 6 | Tottenham’s captain was easily their worst player on the pitch. He played the full game but was unable to get a single shot and created just one chance.

Richarlison – 7 | The Brazilian has been in fine form, but the match against Wolves was one to forget for him.

Rodrigo Bentancur – 6.5 | Despite being introduced in the 71st minute, the Uruguayan had very little impact on the game

Timo Werner – 6.5 | The German was doing well in the box and contributed a lot more than Son in the game despite playing just 30+ minutes.

Brennan Johnson – 6.5 | The new signing was brought on along with Werner but could not do much on the right flank.

Pierre-Emile Hojberg – 6.5 | Very little impact after coming in the 85th minute.

Giovani Lo Celso – 6 | Very little impact after coming in the 85th minute.

Wolverhampton Player Ratings:

Jose Sa – 7 | The goalkeeper could have done a lot better for the goal, as it went right through his legs. However, he made 4 saves and kept the away side in the game.

Max Kilman – 7 | The right center-back stayed back for most of the game and was key in keeping Son quiet.

Craig Dawson – 7.5 | The center-back stuck with Richarlison throughout the game and ensured that the Brazilian could not get a lot of space.

Toti Gomes – 7 | He was partially at fault for the Tottenham goal but had a decent game overall.

Nelson Semedo – 7 | Worked with Kilman to keep Son quiet and was decent going forward to attack.

Mario Lemina – 7 | He hardly made an impact on the game despite playing the full 90 minutes. Had just 36 touches and was mostly shadowing James Maddison on the pitch to keep him quiet.

Joao Gomes – 9 | The midfielder scored both the goals for Wolves and was easily their best player on the pitch.

Rayan Ait Nouri – 6.5 | The left wing-back was unable to do much in attack but did not get caught out of position.

Pablo Sarabia – 7 | Was all over the pitch to keep the away side in defense. Was excellent in pressing in the final third and ended with an assist.

With a brilliant display, Pedro Neto – 7.5 | Once again proved why he is a target for the top clubs, including Tottenham. His superb run resulted in the match-winner for the Wolves.

Hee-Chan Hwang – 6.5 | Made his way back into the starting XI for the injured Cunha but failed to make an impact.

Jean-Ricner Bellegarde – 6 | Replaced Sarabia in the 73rd minute and helped them get more physical in the midfield.

Boubacar Traore – 6 | Came on for the final 2 minutes plus added time and hard nothing to do.

Matt Doherty – 6 | Came on for the final seconds of the game to add more bodies to the defense and finished with just one touch.
