Valencia FC will host Sevilla at the Mestalla Stadium on Sunday in gameweek 25 of La Liga. Palanganas are looking to make it three wins on the run in La Liga while Valencia is looking to get back to the winning run after facing a defeat in their previous match.

On Sunday Valencia faced an away defeat at the hands of Las Palmas in Gran Canaria. Kirian Rodriguez’s team blew past Valencia courtesy of goals from Alex Suarez and Marc Cardona. On the other hand, the Sevilla side has been on a good winning streak after clinching three points in their last two outings in the league. They clinched a huge win over Diego Simeone’s side on Sunday after a 15’ min strike from Isaac Romero. The win helped Sevilla move up the table further away from the relegation zone. Besides, Sevilla will also be looking to have a piece of revenge over Valencia FC after its stern defeat in their last meetup earlier in the season.

Both the teams have had a different sort of campaign so far in the season with Valencia (9th in the league) registering 10 wins while Sevilla (15th in the league) with just 5 wins in their 24 matches. However, with the business end approaching, it is expected to be a tight contest between the two.

Valencia vs Sevilla Team News:

Sevilla- Sevilla has a long list of injuries this season and Quique Sanchez will be without some of his key players against Valencia FC. Erik Lamela, the right winger will be missing the match due to a muscle injury and their left-back Mariano Diaz will also miss the match due to a foot injury. The centre-backs Marcao and Nemanja will also be unavailable for the match due to torn thigh muscle and meniscus injuries.  However, with the recent form and experience of Sergio Ramos in the backline, Sanchez will be depending upon him to turn up in this big match. It would be interesting to see with which lineup Sanchez decides to step on the field on Sunday.

Valencia FC- Andre Almeida and Diego Lopez will be missing the match against Las Palmas. Almeida is out with a muscle injury while Lopez is out with a broken cheekbone. Guillamon and Perez are at risk of suspension going into the match. Ruben Baraja can look to rest some of his key players for the match on Sunday. Hugo Duro has been racking up goals for fun for Baraja’s side this season and has already scored 10 of them.

Predicted Lineups:

Sevilla:

  • Defenders- K. Salas, S. Ramos, N. Gudelj

Head-to-Head:

Sevilla and Valencia have faced each other on 48 occasions. Valencia has registered victories 16 times while Sevilla has 23 wins to their name. 9 matches between the two teams have ended in a draw. Sevilla also leads the goal tally in the head-to-head competitions with 60 to Valencia’s 54.

The last 5 matches between the teams:

Sevilla 1-2 Valencia La Liga (8th December 2023)

Valencia 0-2 Sevilla La Liga (17th April 2023)

Sevilla 1-1 Valencia La Liga (18th October 2022)

Valencia 1-1 Sevilla La Liga (20th January 2022)

Sevilla 3-1 Valencia La Liga (22nd September 2021)

As seen from the above chart, Valencia has managed just one win in their last five meetups with Sevilla. However, Valencia has shown a better form recently as compared to the Palanganas.

Sevilla had made good ground after winning their last two matches in the league. With a good outing on Sunday, Quique Sanchez’s team would want to solidify its position further up in the table.

However, it will be difficult against an equally resistant Valencia who will also have a home advantage. Even though they are coming after a defeat, they cannot be taken for granted especially after their last campaign earlier in the season. It is expected to be a cracker of a contest between two historical clubs who are looking to give it their all at this business end of the tournament. Besides, it has been a decade since Valencia beat Sevilla in both matches of the same campaign.

Predicted score: Valencia 2-1 Sevilla
