The head coach of Chelsea, Mauricio Pochettino, is reportedly lobbying for a contract extension for midfielder Conor Gallagher behind the scenes.
Conor Gallagher to Stay at Chelsea?
Despite a somewhat inconsistent debut season with his childhood club, Gallagher has become an indispensable part of Pochettino’s lineup. He has been entrusted with the captain’s armband on several occasions and has made 29 starts along with three substitute appearances across all competitions in the 2023-24 campaign.
Gallagher’s recent contributions have been notable, with three goals in the last two fixtures, aiding Chelsea to 3-1 victories over Aston Villa and Crystal Palace on their travels.
However, the 24-year-old’s contract situation remains precarious, with less than 18 months remaining on his current deal and co-owners Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital open to a potential sale.
Chelsea, despite substantial spending in recent transfer windows, were relatively quiet in January and now faces the imperative to balance their financial books by the end of June, the deadline for the next financial accounts.
