The first semi-final of the AFC Asian Cup 2023 will see Jordan take on South Korea in an exciting clash. Both sides haven’t been at their best in the tournament so far but have been able to grind out results to reach the semi-finals.
The FIFA 87th-ranked Jordan finished third in their group after beating Malaysia 4-0, drawing 2-2 against South Korea and then losing 1-0 against Bahrain.
They then incredibly beat Iraq 3-2. They trailed 2-1 until the 94th minute but turned it around in the next three minutes. Jordan then beat Tajikistan 1-0 in the quarter-finals.
Meanwhile, South Korea finished second in the same group, beating Bahrain 3-1, drawing 2-2 against Jordan and 3-3 against Malaysia. The FIFA 23rd-ranked team then beat Saudi Arabia on penalties before beating Australia 2-1 after extra time.
Both sides have played some very tightly fought contests in the Asian Cup 2023 and their semi-final clash is expected to be similar.

Jordan will be without attacker Hamza Al Dardour after he received a red card in their 3-2 win over Iran in the Round of 16.
South Korea, meanwhile, were dealt a major blow as Kim Min-jae received his second yellow card of the tournament against Australia. He will, hence, miss the semi-final clash.

South Korea haven’t been at their best this campaign and have struggled to control games for the entire 90 minutes. They have been prone to counter attacks and Kim Min-jae’s absence could make them even more vulnerable.
Meanwhile, Jordan have fought well in all their games and shown brilliance in moments. They have also finished all their games in 90 minutes while South Korea have now played two consecutive extra times, which could play a factor in the semi-final.
In their group-stage clash, Korea dominated possession but were frustrated by a resolute Jordan defense. They should’ve learned from that and will be favorites on paper to reach the final.
